Hi Theatre-goers
I’m counting down the “sleeps” until I go to the O2 Arena on Saturday to see the hugely anticipated resurrected (literally) Jesus Christ Superstar with DJ Chris Moyles as Herrod, Tim Minchin as Judas, Mel C as Mary and talent show winner Ben Forster as Jesus.
I last saw this production a few year ago in St Albans performed by an amateur operatic society and it was really, really good. Before that, I’ve seen it twice in the West End – first off with Paul Nicholas (who was the dish of the day in 1972) and then 2 decades later with Steve Balsamo playing Jesus – this production led to a successful UK tour which was finally filmed for video/DVD release with Glen Carter (who later appeared in original cast of Jersey Boys) as Jesus.
When Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice wrote the rock opera they visualised it as an Arena piece and when it first opened in the US back in the 70s that’s exactly what it was. It only played in Arenas across the country. This is the first time it has been performed in Arena venues across the UK which takes in in London, Birmingham, Cardiff , Glasgow, Liverpool. Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield & Wembley.
So, no excuse not to see it at one of these venues close to you!
Have a great Thursday
Sara
