24/10/12 Top 5 Happy Shows in London

Hi Theatre-goers

I’m feeling a bit under the weather today, but you don’t want to hear about that do you?

However, in view of my depressed state it got me thinking as to the 5 top shows that would be a great pick me up and get my spirits soaring again, so here’s my selection…

First up would be Singin’ in the Rain at the Palace Theatre which you can’t help but smile at. It’s such an uplifting feel-good show with absolutely superb dancing from the whole cast, but especially the 3 leads. Be warned, if you sit in the first 5 rows of the stalls you will get wet!

Next would be Mamma Mia because you can leave rainy old London behind and be transported to the Grecian sun – the set is so sunshine bright and everyone on stage is in summer clothes, you feel the warmth spread across the audience from the first song. Plus the Abba soundtrack will put everyone in a good mood.

For the naughty child in you, I would recommend Matilda the Musical. It is so full of energy and humour. The songs are very silly and appeal to all ages and who wouldn’t want to eat a whole ginormous chocolate cake in class whilst being cheered on by your mates?

An Agatha Christie “who-dunnit” may not instantly come to mind for cheering you up, but The Mousetrap really does just that. Again full of humour and keeps you guessing right to the end. It is brilliantly put together and amazingly the secret of just “who-dunnit” is duly kept within the confines of the theatre.

Finally, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without an injection in some form of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and this year the London Palladium resurrects Scrooge starring Tommy Steele as the dour-faced man himself. Fun for all the family.

Actually just writing about all those shows has made me feel better, hope it does the same to you!

Happy Wednesday everyone

Sara
