Hi theatre-goers
Andrew Lloyd Webber has been pretty busy recently – as well as reviving some of his (and others’) musicals in the West End and presiding over numerous judging panels on tv talent shows he’s found time in between to tinkle on the old ivories and write the music for a new production, Stephen Ward, which has it’s World Premiere at the Aldwych theatre in December 2013.
The new musical centres on real life figure, Dr Stephen Ward, a society osteopath whose libertine ideals led him into a world of prostitutes, Lords, MPs and espionage – forever known as the Profumo Affair in 1963 it was “the scandal that brought down a Government“.
Lloyd Webber is aided by Don Black & Christopher Hampton who he’s collaborated with on Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard and Tell Me on a Sunday to name but three and the show is directed by Sir Richard Eyre so has a pretty decent “creative team”.
No news on the casting yet… actor John Hurt played Ward in the 1989 British film Scandal, but can’t imagine that he’ll be up for a bit of song & dance aged 73. We shall wait and see!
Have a great rest of the week
Sara
