Wednesday 13th June 2012

Hi Theatre-goers

Finally the sun is out and as I walked my dog this morning it actually felt like June. Hope you are all enjoying a few spots of sunshine where ever you are in the UK/world!

I sent out our weekly newsletter to our 19,000+ subscribers yesterday with the subject of what shows in the West End began life as a book or film and finally made it onto the stage.

As I was writing I realised there were SO MANY I would have to do a follow up newsletter next week with all the others I didn’t have the space to fit it!

So over night I’ve been thinking about other musicals or plays that didn’t  start initially off that way and found success in another medium before “wowing” us in the West End and beyond…

How about  Disney’s The Lion King Theatre Breaks which have been a firm family favourite at the Lyceum Theatre since 1999? The original film is one of the Disney animated classics and it’s what my 12 year old son chose to see at the cinema in 3D for his birthday treat last year! It shows that the good ones appeal to all ages.

Talking of classics… what about experiencing the MGM’s magic of the musical with Singin’ in the Rain Theatre Breaks at the Palace theatre? The staging of this show is very unique and the dancing is … well, just sublime, jaw-dropping, amazing!

Another Hollywood great of yester-year Top Hat Theatre Breaks are going tap-tastic at the Aldwych theatre. Everyone needs to brush of those tails once in a while and go dancing cheek to cheek… what do you say?

Around the UK there are plenty of touring productions to catch of shows which were originally very successful films, yet none of them officially musicals. Choose from …

Sister Act Theatre Breaks in Newcastle

9 to 5 The Musical Theatre Breaks in Edinburgh

Legally Blonde Theatre Breaks in Cardiff

Dirty Dancing Theatre Breaks in Birmingham

Have a great Wednesday everyone

Sara
