16/7/12 Lights Out for Chicago Musical

Dear Theatre-goers

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend and if you were in the South East you will have actually seen a great big yellow thing in the sky. Just in case you didn’t know what was – it’s called the SUN.  And boy it was lovely to finally see it even if it was for just 12 hours!

Anyway, very sad to learn that my favourite musical of all time – Chicago – is closing in London on 1st September. It’s been entertaining audiences in the West End for an amazing 15 years starting off at the Adelphi theatre, then moving to the Cambridge for 9 years and now at it’s final resting place of the Garrick.

It’s seen some big names take on the lead roles over the years including Denise van Outen, Darius Campbell, Nigel Planer, America Ferrera,  Marti Pellow, David Hasselhoff, John Barrowman, Tony Hadley, Jerry Springer, Claire Sweeney,  Jennifer Ellison, Jill Halfpenny, Brooke Shields, Bonnie Langford, Tina Arena, Ashlee Simpson, Michelle Williams and Christie Brinkley.

The role of sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn is currently being played by ice skating Olympian Robin Cousins who has found a successful 2nd career in musicals having starred previously in Grease, Rocky Horror Show and Cats.

I can presonally recommend Chicago to you as I have seen it over 10 times, plus I even performed in it during a 3 week tour of Sweden in 1990, so it is a musical definitely close to my heart.

So come October don’t sit there wishing you had seen it, go see it now – you will not be disappointed.

Happy Monday everyone

Sara
